Wolverines to Retire Bruce “Cukie” Coppo’s Number
2022-02-01On Saturday, February 5 the Calumet Wolverines will celebrate U.P. Hall of Famer Bruce "Cukie" Coppo with a jersey retirement ceremony.
Coppo will be recognized by the U.P. Hall of Fame later this year, and the Wolverines wanted to get ahead of him by putting his name and number in the rafters of the historic Calumet Colosseum Saturday night as the host the Marquette Mutineers. Game time is 7:30 p.m. with the ceremony to precede the game.

- Bgan playing hockey in early 1950s, meaning he's closing in on 70 years of hockey coaching, referring and playing.
- Started with the Claumet Wolverines in 1964, and is considered the team's all-time points leader.
- Coached a state champion midget team, eventually finishing as the national runners up
- Traveled with midget team to Sweden to play
- Coached Wolverines to national championship (2002) and three runner-up finishes
- Coached or played in 36 Gibson Cup competitions
- Won three pond hockey championsips
- Won three adult USA championships in Florida
- Refereed for 56 years
- Refereed high school hockey in Michigan for 48 years
- Referred 3 years of high school state finals and semifinals
- Estimated to have refereed between 800 and 850 games
- Served on Calumet Hockey Association board, including past president
